Mental Health Awareness Month: Habits to Maintain a Healthy Mind


May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Just like physical health, mental health matters. We are in it together when prioritizing our mind’s wellbeing to grow and thrive in all aspects of life!

To help put your mental health at the forefront of your mind, here is a list of daily habits that may strengthen and maintain a positive mentality. 

Exercise Daily 

As of February 2021, during the 2020 pandemic, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. reported symptoms of an anxiety or a depressive disorder. These numbers may have increased during this period as gyms shut down and daily exercise became a second thought. 

Our brains respond well to physical activity; our heart rate goes up and endorphins are released. Endorphins promote a surge of happiness while releasing stress and anxiety. They also can alleviate feelings of depression and potentially boost self-esteem! 

To ensure your mental health is strong, move your body at least 30 minutes a day. Whether it is a quick cardio round in your living room, a jog outdoors, or a nature walk, a little goes a long way! 

Eat Well 

Similar to exercise, our diet can dictate our physical bodies but also has a strong impact on our mental state. Mental health is correlated to gut health, which is determined by the foods we eat every day.
