Get Creative! Three DIY Gifts using Coconut Oil

Nothing shows people that you love them more than a homemade gift. It shows that you were willing to give up some of your valuable and limited time to make something special for them.  Here are three great options for holiday gifts that use coconut oil (Purium’s Organic Tropic Oil is virgin, hand-poured coconut oil).  You will love them!

1.  Holiday Cookie Mix

Put everything they need together to make it easy! You are helping them to save time and money while providing them with a delicious (but healthy) treat. Win-win!

Put all the stuff they need into a nice wicker basket. You can pick a simple recipe with just a few ingredients (one example is David Sandoval’s Coco-roons shared below). Make sure to write or type the recipe out with the ingredients and instructions. It is fine to put the dry ingredients altogether in a mason jar – layer them for a nice stripe effect. Wet ingredients like coconut oil and honey can be kept in their own containers. You can use some colorful potholders or kitchen towels to pad the basket and add even more color. Presentation is everything!

David Sandoval’s Coco-roons
½ cup Rice Bran Solubles
2 tbsp Activated Barley
¼ cup Organic Tropic Oil

1 tbsp. raw cacao powder
1-2 tsp. raw honey

¼ unsulfured coconut shreds (optional)
½ raw nuts, soaked overnight and chopped (optional – walnuts or almonds work great)

Instructions: Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Place all ingredients into a gallon freezer bag or similar. Press ingredients until you make the shape of a loaf at the bottom of the bag. Place bag in freezer for 30 minutes or until stiff. Remove the loaf from the bag and chop into 6 equal pieces.

Optional: Mix coconut shreds and chopped nuts and roll loaf in them prior to freezing.

2.  Organic Coconut Oil & Sugar Scrub

1 part Purium Organic Tropic Oil
1 part organic coconut sap sugar

Those two ingredients are literally all you need to make a delightful scrub that will leave your skin fresh and beautiful as it exfoliates the dead cells away. Just take the two ingredients in equal parts and mix together thoroughly. Put the mixture in a resealable jar and decorate with a nice water-resistant label or festive ribbon and voila! A lovely gift for any man or woman that does not enjoy having dry, scaly skin “winter skin.” That being said, you CAN add more ingredients, if you prefer! Some ideas are a few drops of high quality essential oils, fresh lemon juice or lavender flowers.

Another option is this scrub that is gentle enough for your face:

1 1/2 cups regular oatmeal ground with blender or food processor.
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
2 Tablespoons Honey
After grinding the oats, pour into bowl. Add rest of ingredients. If you want more honey add more!

3.  Coconut Oil Lip Balm

2 tablespoons Purium Organic Tropic Oil

1 tablespoon beeswax

1 tablespoon shea butter

Create a double boiler effect: put ingredients in glass, heat-safe bowl and place that bowl into a pot with an inch or two of boiling water. (Be careful!) Mix the ingredients thoroughly. Add to small air-tight glass jar. Optional: You can also use a natural food dye to tint it! Just make sure to use an extremely fine powder or, even better, a food-grade organic liquid dye. Another option is to add peppermint essential oils or other essential oils that are safe for the skin/mouth.

These three D.I.Y. projects are easy and affordable, as well as crowd-pleasers for men, women and children!
