Top 5 Autumn Family Outings

The leaves are changing color, there’s a chill in the air, and the kids are back in school. This can only mean one thing…Autumn is upon us!  It’s that time of year that makes us feel all cozy inside. Whether we are jumping in a pile of leaves or curling up with a cup of warm apple cider, it’s hard to imagine anything more perfect. And now that the weather is cooling down, it’s time to get creative about spending quality time with your family.  Here are a few of our favorite outings you may want to try:

1.  Go to the Pumpkin Patch:

You and your family will love running around and picking out the perfect pumpkin!   Why we love this? This is like a FOUR IN ONE activity and it’s inexpensive. What we mean by that is… you go pick out your pumpkin with the family, you bring it home and decorate or carve it, you roast the pumpkin seeds for a healthy and tasty snack, and you use the filling for a healthy Fall inspired meal!

2.  Make up Spooky Stories with Your Kids:

When we say “spooky” we don’t mean something that would come out of a horror film. Make it kid-friendly and let them share their stories too. Why we love this? It lets your kids(and you) be creative! To make it even more fun, you can have them write their story and draw pictures then take turns reading stories to the family. This is not only something they’ll enjoy, it’s also sneaking in some education!

3.  Go Apple Picking:

Find an apple orchard where you and your family can pick apples together. Why we love this? It’s a great time to bond with family, get physical exercise, and to get some delicious, locally grown apples. Your kids will love eating apples straight off the tree and think of all the amazing food you can make with them later…apple pie, apple fritters, apple tart, apple doughnuts….so many options!

4.  Make Pine Cone Crafts:

Go out to your backyard and pick up some pine cones. Bring out your Fall color paints, glue, and glitter…and decorate! Why we love this? Anything that involves nature and crafts is always a good option, in our book!  Searching for pine cones is fun and involves spending time with your family, plus kids love everything that has to do with crafts and painting. Once the pine cones dry, you can display your beautiful decorations.

5.  Have a Movie Night:

Snuggle up on the couch with some homemade apple cider (remember those apples you picked earlier?) and watch a Fall inspired movie. This is a great way to end a fun-filled family day and calm down the kids. They will love helping you make the apple cider when they know it came from the apples they picked themselves. Why we love this? Kids love movies and this gives you the break you need after a long (but rewarding) day. Plus the cooler weather makes for good cuddling with the kids and pets.
